The Last of Us: dark and heartbreaking TV series preview

The Last of Us takes place twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to get 14-year-old Ellie out of the oppressive quarantine zone. What begins as a small job soon turns into a brutal and harrowing journey as both of them have to traverse the United States and depend on each other for their survival.

Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Wonder Woman, 1984) and Bella Ramsey (His Dark Materials, Game of Thrones) will play Joel and Ellie, key characters in the license. Gabriel Luna (True Detective) will play Tommy, Joel’s younger brother and ex-soldier, Merle Dandridge (Stewardess) will play Marlene, the leader of the resistance, and Anna Torv (Fringe) will play Tess, a smuggler and hardened survivalist.

The Last of Us also stars Nico Parker (The Third Day) as Joel’s 14-year-old daughter Sarah, Murray Bartlett (White Lotus) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Frank and Bill, two post-pandemic survivors living alone in their isolated city, Storm Reed (Euphoria) as Riley, an orphan in Boston, and Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, a quarantine zone rebel. Lamar Johnson was cast as Henry and Keyvonne Woodard, Sam, two Kansas City brothers on the run from a revolutionary movement seeking revenge. Graham Greene will play Marlon and Elaine Miles will play Florence, a married couple surviving alone in the wilderness of post-apocalyptic Wyoming.
