Apple iCloud is transforming the web

Apple is launching a new web interface for iCloud that is much more efficient and customizable.

iCloud has been available directly on the web for a while now, but it’s more of a fallback than anything else as its interface can leave a lot to be desired. Today you may have a reason to return to it. Indeed, the Cupertino-based company has just unveiled the new iCloud Web Client in beta, with a lot of information available at a glance and customizable organization of elements to suit your needs. It’s also easier to switch between apps with launchers on the home page and menu bar, and you can easily start a task (like writing an email or adding an event to your calendar).

This new version also improves access to iCloud+ features such as personalized email domain names and Hide My Email. And if you’re panicking about data loss, the Data Recovery tool can help you recover bookmarks, calendars, contacts, and other iCloud Drive files deleted in the last 30 days. besides iCloud Drive, you can restore to a specific time. Some features, such as Family Sharing, HomeKit Protected Video, and Private Relay, need to be managed through your Apple device.

Much more efficient and customizable

Apple hasn’t specified when this new iCloud web interface should exit beta. We have contacted the company about this and will let you know if they respond. Either way, the Apple brand presents this version as a real improvement for customers for whom the iPhone may be the only Apple device. It then becomes easier to access content and manage its iCloud services through a Windows PC browser.

Of course, this redesign won’t be enough to convince Android users to move to the Apple ecosystem, and individual web apps haven’t changed much either. However, the beta may encourage you to stay within the Apple brand ecosystem. Combined with web access to services like Music and TV+, it also shows that Apple wants to appeal to users who can’t (or don’t want to) run dedicated apps on the platforms of their choice.
