It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything new about the rootless Cheyote jailbreak from the Odyssey Team for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1, and according to lead developer CoolStar on the Sileo & Odyssey Team Discord channel late this evening, we may go on not hearing anything new for a while.
As it turns out, some of the confusion stemmed from CoolStar’s August announcement that Cheyote was over “four weeks away.”At the time, CoolStar mentioned this, thinking it would only be a realistic timeline if she abandoned everything else she had been working on and worked exclusively on Cheyote. Apparently this hasn’t happened since CoolStar has been more into ChromeBook modding lately.
In its latest comments, CoolStar said the jailbreak community shouldn’t expect anything from it in 2022, and didn’t want to offer anything other than confirmation that it will showcase an iOS and iPadOS 15 jailbreak in April 2023 – almost half a century ago. in a year.
Moreover, the iOS and iPadOS 15 jailbreak demo mentioned by CoolStar should not be considered as a time frame for release, since it did not promise it. Again, there is no word yet on when the Cheyote will be released, especially since the implementation of tweaks still needs to be fixed to support the new rootless dynamics.
Obviously, this is not what many members of the jailbreak community wanted to hear, especially with all the comments, teasing and hype that the Odyssey team has been making over the past few months. Many have deliberately settled on a compatible iPhone or iPad firmware while waiting for this release, only to feel forgotten.
In the meantime, other teams continue to work on the iOS and iPadOS 15 jailbreak, with one of the most notable being the checkm8-based palera1n jailbreak for developers, which only supports A9-A11 devices. It’s also worth noting that Linus Henze recently released his Fugu15 developer jailbreak, which includes support for new devices and firmware up to and including iOS and iPadOS 15.4.1.
While other developers are allegedly working on jailbreaking iOS and iPadOS 15, we haven’t heard much about them lately.
If you’ve been waiting for an iOS or iPadOS 15 jailbreak all this time and plan to keep waiting, the best option is to keep using the lowest firmware and avoid updates, as unattractive as that sounds…
