Studio Ghibli teases collaboration with Lucasfilm

Lucasfilm will be working with Studio Ghibli on what is expected to be a Star Wars-related project.

The Star Wars license is no stranger to anime adaptations, as George Lucas’ sci-fi universe has been reimagined in terms of Japanese style in Disney+’s Star Wars Visions. This anthology series brought together several dedicated animation studios to tell original, non-canon stories based on the unique aesthetics and characters of Star Wars. Kamikaze Douga, Studio Colorido, Geno Studio and Studio Trigger were among the creators who reimagined a galaxy far, far away. Some enthusiasts believe that Studio Ghibli’s recent announcement is a teaser regarding its possible participation in the second season of Star Wars.

Star Wars Visions season 2 with Studio Ghibli?

Star Wars Visions has received generally positive reviews from fans and the press, with many citing attempts to reimagine the franchise’s history in a whole new light. Despite the praise, some have criticized the different tones and styles that have led the series to struggle to maintain a cohesive core. When it comes to the second season of Star Wars, Lucasfilm has its cards. Showrunner James Waugh has confirmed that the next set of episodes will feature more than just anime, hinting that Western animation will feature as well:

We really wanted it to be a kind of “sub-brand”that allowed different creators to come and celebrate Star Wars from their own unique cultural perspective.
