Netflix hosted a Tudum event this weekend where the platform shared updates on many of its projects. At least we can say that everyone has found something for themselves, with more or less short-term information and more or less important projects. Either way, fans have been thrilled with these updates. One of them, for example, the long-awaited one, is the film adaptation of The Three-Body Problem.
Netflix Announces ‘Three-Body Challenge’ Adaptation
That’s why Netflix has made this highly anticipated adaptation by fans of Chinese writer Liu Cixin’s sci-fi novel a breeze. First announced in 2020, this series from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will release sometime next year. Netflix has shared a behind-the-scenes teaser revealing several characters in particular.
The live-action series will air in 2023.
Among the actors who were present at the casting of this project are Benedict Wong – “One on Mars”, “Doctor Strange”, Eiza Gonzalez – “Baby Driver”, as well as John Bradley and Liam Cunningham from “Game of Thrones”. Considered a major piece of contemporary science fiction, The Three-Body Problem was first published in China in 2008. The novel took six long years to reach the West and became the first Asian novel to win the Hugo Award. Liu Cixin and Ken Liu, who have translated into English the two trilogies of Earth’s Past Memories, are consulting on this game adaptation.

In 2019, Netflix signed a very lucrative $200 million deal with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. The Three Body Challenge is the duo’s first project for the company. However, they are filming a series with Sandra Oh. Netflix is expected to share more information about this adaptation of Liu Cixin in the coming months.
