Amazon vows to fix Comixology after service became nearly unusable

Amazon is making big promises to Comixology. Will fans soon have a service worthy of the name?

Nearly four months after integrating Comixology with its other services, Amazon admitted that the platform had downgraded the service in question. “We understand that the current experience needs improvement and we want you to know that we are working hard to improve things as quickly as possible,” the American giant said in a long Twitter thread.

In the coming weeks, Amazon promised to address some of the major issues that have plagued the digital comics service since its integration into the Kindle app. For example, a future beta version of the Comixology web client will restore support for two-page spreads. In addition, Amazon said it is working to fix an issue with its in-store algorithm that causes the software to show results for non-fiction novels and books when users search for comics, manga, or graphic novels.

Amazon also indicates that while some improvements are coming soon, others don’t have an availability date. “We’ll let you know when it’s available,”the American giant said of a feature that allows users to filter their comics in the Kindle app. “We know there is still a lot to be done to improve the Comixology experience, and we still have more to share.”

For fans, Amazon’s handling of Comixology is particularly disappointing, given that the previous version of the app was user-friendly and functional, and included many of the features the company is currently working on adding. Unfortunately, the American giant can no longer use this software, as it was shut down by Amazon shortly after the Kindle integration was completed. And to make matters worse, Comixology is the only digital service you can use to buy comics from a wide variety of publishers.
