Amazon raises the price of its Prime service in the US

Amazon is raising the price of its Prime subscription in the US, but the increase has not (yet) been extended to France.

If you’re used to placing orders on Amazon regularly, a subscription to the Prime service might be a very good idea. For a flat annual fee – or monthly, but much less financially attractive – you can enjoy faster shipping, as well as many third-party benefits, such as access to music or video services. Very interesting subscription. But it will become more expensive.

Amazon raises the price of its Prime subscription in the US

The American giant did reveal that its Prime service will now cost $139 per year in the United States. An increase of $20 from the previous rate of $119 per year. There are several factors that could explain this increase in the price of a service, such as shipping, employees, construction, and others, but the main reason is probably service.

That being said, to Amazon’s credit, the company has refrained from raising prices for a long time. Amazon Prime originally launched at $79 per year, a price that held for nearly 10 years before rising to $99 in 2014. The ecommerce specialist increased it even more in 2018 to move to the current $119 rate. From year to year, the increase is ultimately not very significant.

An increase that does not (yet) concern France

Amazon isn’t the only company raising prices for its services. We’ve seen this on many other platforms before, especially Netflix, which raises prices quite rarely. If Amazon is your main online store, a subscription is still very interesting, but new subscribers will find it a little harder to swallow the pill.

There is currently no talk of such an increase in France, but there is no doubt that the American giant will unify its prices around the world. To be continued!
