Amazon is commissioning a mini-series about the history of FTX with the Russo brothers as director.
The Russo brothers are going to work on a series for Amazon based on the history of FTX, one of the most popular crypto exchanges, and its scandalous end. According to Variety, Amazon has green-lit an eight-episode miniseries adaptation and would like to begin filming next spring.
Amazon orders FTX history mini-series
David Weil, who previously worked with the Russo brothers on the Prime Video series Citadel, will write and executive produce the pilot episode. Anthony and Joe Russo, to whom we owe the four sons of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are in talks to direct and executive produce eight episodes.
FTX filed for bankruptcy last week after a series of unfortunate events led to its collapse in a very short period of time. The value of the exchange’s FTT tokens tumbled earlier this month after rival exchange Binance announced it was selling its remaining FTT following “recent revelations.”Days before Binance decided to liquidate all of its FTTs, CoinDesk reported that Alameda Research, a trading company founded by then-FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Freed, was primarily backed by FTT tokens. “More evidence that the ties between FTX and Alameda were unusually strong,” writes CoinDesk. Alameda was in financial trouble and allegedly used FTX customer deposits to pay off its debts.
With the Russo brothers as director
Small investors and ordinary clients, who sensed something was wrong, wanted to leave the ship and, logically, demanded their money back, which led to a liquidity problem. Binance initially promised to bail out FTX by buying it, but ultimately backed out. Following this, FTX filed for bankruptcy and Sam Bankman-Fried stepped down as CEO. There’s so much more to the whole story, including the mystery surrounding the missing billions of dollars or missing stolen funds, all of which the Russo brothers could have included in the series.
At this point, no one knows what sources the Russo brothers may have used, but Variety says the series may be based on “inside testimony”from reporters investigating the FTX scandal. They will also be discussing certain key roles in the series with several Marvel actors. Before Amazon confirmed it was working on an FTX series, Deadline reported that Apple was close to signing a seven-figure deal for the rights to a book about Sam Bankman-Fried and the cryptocurrency exchange, which is under consideration. we need Moneyball, The Big Short and The Blind Side. Unlike Amazon, Apple would like to make a movie based on the Michael Lewis book.
