AMD has acquired Pensando Systems for approximately $1.9 billion to expand the US manufacturer’s product portfolio with a high-performance batch processor and software already deployed through the cloud.
CEO Prem Jain and the Pensando Systems team will join AMD as part of the Data Center Solutions Group led by Forrest Norrod, Senior Vice President and CEO of AMD, once the acquisition is approved by regulatory authorities. The California-based company will continue to focus on delivering its products and technologies, but will now have more room to accelerate its business and respond to growing market opportunities with more customers.
“Building an advanced data center with maximum performance, security, flexibility, and the lowest total cost of ownership requires a wide range of compute engines,” said Lisa Su, President and CEO of AMD. “All major cloud and OEM customers use Epyc processors to power their data center offerings. Today, with the acquisition of Pensando, we are adding a leading managed services platform to our portfolio of high performance adaptive processors, GPUs, FPGAs and SoCs. The team has world-class experience and a proven track record in chip, software and platform innovation, which enhances our ability to deliver best-in-class solutions to our cloud, enterprise and edge cloud customers.”
Prem Jain, CEO of Pensando, added: “We are thrilled to be joining the AMD family. Our shared culture of innovation, excellence and relentless focus on partners and customers makes this the perfect match. Together, we have the talent and tools to realize our customers’ vision for the future of computing. In less than five years, Pensando has assembled a world-class team of engineers, systems building experts, and a rich and deep ecosystem of partners and customers who have now deployed over 100,000 Pensando platforms in production. Partnering with AMD will help accelerate the growth of our core business and allow us to reach a much wider customer base in more markets. ”
