The new 5G chip in the iPhone 14 looks very promising. Engraved in 6nm, it will also be compatible with Wi-Fi 6E.
Just because two phones are 5G compatible doesn’t necessarily mean they’re equivalent. And it looks like we should expect that to be a little more obvious with the iPhone 14. Indeed, if a recent report from Economic Daily News is to be believed, the Cupertino-based company will be approaching TSMC to produce 5G chips for Apple’s next -generation smartphones.

But why is it important? Simply because TSMC’s manufacturing process makes it possible to manufacture a 5G chip using a 6nm process. This will result in a more powerful chip – in other words, offering a more interesting power-to-performance ratio – but also more compact than with a larger engraving.
Engraved in 6nm, it will also be compatible with Wi-Fi 6E.
Using progressively finer etching reduces the distances that signals have to travel through the chip, and with shorter distances the chip is more efficient. This is exactly the same concept as the processors in our smartphones, tablets and computers. Also, having a smaller chip would theoretically allow the Cupertino company to integrate a larger battery or new components into the chassis for a similar volume.
And that is not all. In addition to better power management, the new 5G chip, which should be integrated into the iPhone 14, will also be able to support Wi-Fi 6E. Of course, to take full advantage of this version of the wireless protocol, you’ll need to see a compatible router, but if that’s your case, then this new chip really should do little wonders.
