The Apple iPhone SE 2022 was recently unveiled at Apple’s March event as Apple’s cheapest iPhone with 5G connectivity. In addition to the new iPhone SE, the company also released a new iPad Air, Mac Studio with M1 Ultra, Studio Display, and new iPhone 13 and 13 Pro colors. However, for many, the 2022 iPhone SE is the star of the show. The 2022 iPhone SE starts at Rs 43,900 in India and will compete with Android rivals. The price of the iPhone SE 2022 is close to that of the recently launched Asus 8Z in India, a compact flagship Android phone. Along with that, we will also compare the specifications of the iPhone SE 2022 with the OnePlus 9 5G, which is arguably the best phone and also the most popular phone in its segment.

The iPhone SE 2022 starts at $575 for 64GB, the 128GB variant costs $641, and $771 for the 256GB variant. The iPhone SE will be available for pre-orders starting March 11 and will go on sale starting March 18, including Flipkart.

The Asus 8Z is available in a single 8GB + 128GB variant for $562. The device is now available for purchase on Flipkart.

The base variant of the OnePlus 9 8GB + 128GB is $588, while the 12GB + 256GB is $654. The phone is available on Amazon, OnePlus, and offline stores.

One of the few areas where the new iPhone SE has not received an update in the design and display segment. The phone has glass protection on both the front and back like the iPhone 13. However, the design of the phone is strikingly similar to the iPhone SE 2020 with bezels around the display on the front and curved edges. The phone features a 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with 1334× resolution 750 pixels, maximum brightness of 625 nits, and supports a wide color gamut. For those looking for a thin and light phone, the iPhone SE 2022 won’t disappoint, measuring just 7.3mm thin and weighing just 144 grams. In addition, the phone is also IP67 rated and comes with a fingerprint scanner built into the home button and there is a lightning port at the bottom.

As for the Asus 8Z, the device weighs just 169g, which is good compared to other Android phones in the segment, and measures 148 x 68.5 x 8.9mm. The phone also has an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. In addition to the usual volume keys and power button, the Asus 8Z is equipped with a Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, two stereo speakers with Dirac HD Sound support, and a built-in fingerprint scanner. In the visual department, the device features a 5.9-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio, 120Hz refresh rate, 1100 nits peak brightness, and support for HDR 10 and HDR10+ playback. The front of the device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Finally, the OnePlus 9 5G is 8.1mm thick and weighs 183 grams. The OnePlus 9 also comes with the classic OnePlus change slider on the side as well as a stereo speaker setup. It features a 120Hz Full HD+ AMOLED display and a 6.55-inch screen. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, as is the back of the phone. It also comes with an in-display fingerprint reader.

The iPhone SE 2022 gets a big boost here as it features Apple’s own A15 Bionic chipset, which is built on a 5nm process with two high-performance ARMv8 cores and four power-efficient cores. The phone supports 5G network, which is a big advantage for an affordable iPhone. While the amount of RAM is currently unknown, the phone comes with three storage options: 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

Both the Asus 8Z and OnePlus 9 are equipped with the Snapdragon 888 5G processor and are paired with the Adreno 660 GPU. The chipset has a maximum clock speed of 2.84GHz. Both phones come with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The Asus 8Z only comes with 8GB + 128GB, while the OnePlus 9 is available with 8/12GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage.

The Apple iPhone SE 2022 hasn’t received a big upgrade yet again as it features a single 12MP rear camera along with LED flash, f/1.8 aperture, portrait mode, optical image stabilization, deep fusion, smart HDR 4 and more. There is a 7-megapixel selfie camera with ƒ/2.2 aperture on the front. The device supports video recording up to 4K at 24, 25, 30 or 60 frames per second.

In terms of optics, the Asus 8Z offers a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 main camera with f/1.8 aperture, PFAF and OIS. It is followed by a 12MP Sony IMX363 lens. The main 64-megapixel camera can record video up to 8K and up to 4K HDR, while the 12-megapixel camera can record up to 4K. On the front, the phone is equipped with a 12-megapixel Sony IMX663 dual-pixel camera with autofocus.

On the other hand, the OnePlus 9 features a 48MP Sony IMX689 main camera with ƒ/1.8 aperture, a 50MP Sony IMX766 ultra wide-angle camera, and a 2MP monochrome lens. On the front, the phone is equipped with a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 selfie camera. OnePlus has teamed up with Hasselblad to explore color in the OnePlus 9 series. Surprisingly, the OnePlus 9 lacks OIS.

As always, Apple hasn’t disclosed the battery capacity of the iPhone SE. However, the company says the phone will last up to 15 hours of local video playback, up to 10 hours of video streaming, and up to 50 hours of audio playback on a single charge. In terms of charging, you’ll need to use the included USB-C to Lightning cable, which charges the device up to 50% in 30 minutes using a 20W adapter. The phone also supports wireless charging. However, the brand does not provide an adapter in the box.

The Asus 8Z, in contrast, comes with a 4,000mAh battery and supports 30W fast charging. The OnePlus 9 features a 4500mAh battery with Warp Charge 65T fast charging support, which charges the device up to 100% in just 30 minutes. Both phones come with fast charging in the box and both do not support wireless charging.

Apple iPhone SE 2022 vs Asus 8Z vs OnePlus 9: Software

The iPhone SE 2022 runs iOS 15 out of the box and will receive updates for at least the next four years. On the other hand, both Asus 8Z and OnePlus 9 launched with Android 11 out of the box. The OnePlus 9 has already received Android 12, but the Asus 8Z has not yet received the Android 12 update.
