The Californian firm Apple would have approached former Microsoft engineers who worked on the Xbox with a request to create a new console.
More than twenty years after the failure of Pippin with Bandai, Apple will be ready to make a comeback to the world of consoles, according to floor-to-ceiling rumors reported by Windows Central journalist Jez Corden on the latest edition of the Xbox Two podcast with content creator Rand Al Thor: “For a while now, I’ve been hearing that Apple is hiring engineers who used to work for Microsoft in the Xbox division to build their own console. I’ve heard for a long time that Apple is considering building a game console. And I don’t know if it’s virtual reality, some kind of metaverse thing, or something like that. I don’t know if it will be implemented, I also don’t know if the project has already been canceled because Apple is looking into a ton of things for the next launch. I don’t have any great sources on this, I don’t have any documents, I don’t have any photos, but that’s just what I heard.»
Apple, the future rival of Sony and Microsoft in games?
If nothing is set in stone, the marketing of Apple’s new console is not surprising given that the Cupertino-based company has the necessary funds to launch such a project and is already firmly established in the video game industry with Apple Arcade, the first subscription-based gaming service for smartphones, computers and TVs. Finally, an Apple-branded VR headset is still in the pipeline despite various technical issues. The release is scheduled for 2023 or even 2024.
