Apple explains how you can hide the notch on the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros

Apple earlier this month announced the new MacBook Pro. Apple’s new Pro laptop is equipped with two new M1 series chips called M1 Pro and M1 Max. The newer models also have a beloved SD card slot and an HDMI port. Despite these updates and improvements, the theme of the design was discussed on social media. Apple has introduced a new model of MacBook Pro. This drew some criticism as some felt the notch did not serve a purpose as there was no Face ID technology and it could be distracting. For those who don’t like the notch on the new MacBook Pro, Apple has announced a solution.

The support page on Apple’s website talks about the new “Scale to Fit”feature. This particular feature ensures that the app’s menu bar options don’t hide behind a notch known as the camera body in the Apple naming world. The company says that users who want to hide the notch can turn on “scaling to fit the built-in camera”for any app. This will also cause that application’s menu items to move below the notch area.

How to hide the notch on the new MacBook Pro?

To hide the notch, open the Finder app in the Dock and click Apps. Then select the application, right-click on it and select “Get Info”. Alternatively, click on the application and press Command + I. A new window will open with detailed information about the application. Find “Scale to Fit Built-in Camera”and click the box next to it to enable the feature.

Apple says apps can be updated to work better with this area of the screen. If a developer updates their app to be compatible with your Mac, the “Scale to Fit Built-in Camera”option will no longer appear. The notch on newer MacBook Pro models houses a 1080p webcam, but without Face ID. To learn more about the new MacBook Pros, click here.
