Apple has saved nearly £5 billion by removing the charging adapter and headphones from the box of its iPhone, a new Daily Mail report claims. The company may have removed the charging adapter and wired headphones from the box to offset the additional cost of the 5G modem used in newer iPhone models.
In addition to this, Apple could also receive money from customers after they purchased a charging adapter or wired headphones separately from the brand’s online store or authorized retailers. “It is estimated that since the announcement of the move, Apple has sold 190 million iPhones worldwide. The total profit from moving away from chargers and headphones and reducing shipping costs could be up to £5bn, with an additional £225m coming from the sale of accessories,” the report says.

Apple has said that removing the charger and earbuds from the box will cause the boxes to become smaller. This, in turn, will allow the company to ship 70 percent more devices, helping to reduce annual carbon emissions by 2 million metric tons. By 2030, Apple aims to be completely carbon neutral.
The company also announced that a total of 175 Apple suppliers will switch to renewable energy, and the company and its suppliers will bring more than 9 gigawatts of clean energy to the grid worldwide. These actions will avoid more than 18 million metric tons of carbon emissions per year, the equivalent of taking more than 4 million vehicles out of service every year.
While the move could help Apple and the environment, it certainly might not be cost-effective for those who buy the charging adapter and headphones separately, which also come with a bunch of paperwork and paperwork, by the way.
