The iOS 16 update, due out next week, will fix known issues with the iPhone 14 Pro, including severe camera shake, vibration, and strange rattling sound.
- What is happening? For some, using the camera on the latest iPhones in third-party apps results in unexpected behavior resulting in video shaking. In addition to uncontrolled vibration, the camera can also make an eerie sound.
- Why care? Because you want your iPhone’s camera to work properly in apps.
- What to do? Stop using the camera in third-party applications until the issues are resolved to avoid permanent damage to the camera subsystem.
iPhone 14 Pro users report camera issues
Apple released the latest iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro devices last Friday, and some early adopters have already reported interesting teething issues. Affected customers have turned to online forums such as Reddit in order to express their dissatisfaction.
People are reporting strange camera behavior that seems to indicate a hardware error, such as the camera shaking and vibrating when shooting video.
No one likes shaky footage, but that’s not the end of the iPhone 14 Pros’ camera issues. For some, the camera won’t focus in apps, and others report hearing annoying mechanical noise when using the camera in third-party apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. Interestingly, Apple’s own Camera app was unaffected, which means, after all, it’s a software bug and not faulty hardware that needs a recall.

The fix is coming
The issue does not seem to be reproducible on non-Pro devices. According to a statement an Apple spokesperson gave to The Verge, the camera issues plaguing the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be resolved in an iOS software update due next week, likely iOS 16.0.2.
The issue came to the attention of the press after YouTuber Luke Miani took to Twitter to show his iPhone camera vibrating and making a strange rattling sound while filming a video.
It wasn’t until Damian Muñoz’s TikTok shared a video of a violent camera shake that people started demanding answers. The noise appears to be coming from the lens.
Assuming it might have something to do with the device’s hardware image stabilization not working according to the specs.
In any case, don’t use the camera in third-party apps until Apple fixes this obvious software bug or you risk permanently damaging the camera system.
