Arcane becomes the first series to win an Emmy Award. A nice dedication to Riot Games and Fortiche studio. An opportunity to once again award Chadwick Boseman.
Produced by Netflix and based on Riot Games’ iconic League of Legends license, Arcane won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, becoming the first streaming series to win the award in this category. It is ahead of other well-known series such as Bob’s Burgers, Rick and Morty, The Simpsons and What If…?. “This is very important to us because we come from video games. It was unusual to see how the world accepts our characters and our stories,” explained Christian Link, one of the creators of Arcane.
Arcane became the first streaming series to win an Emmy Award.
The series stars Ella Purnell (Jinx), Hailee Steinfeld (Vai) and Cathy Leung (Caitlyn). Last winter, Netflix renewed it for a second season, which suggests the platform is poised to release big-budget video game-based titles. The first season recorded almost 4.2 million hours watched in its first week of operation in the Netflix top 10, placing it as the second most watched series of its time. It also received very positive reviews from both critics and the general public.
A nice dedication to Riot Games and Fortiche studio
Riot Games previously worked with animation studio Fortiche, which created Arcane, but acquired a large stake in the latter in March. The two companies have been actively working on introducing Jinx to League of Legends in 201 and plan to join forces on other projects that have yet to be announced, in addition to Arcane. However, the details were not disclosed.
Opportunity to once again award Chadwick Boseman
For my part, what if…? didn’t leave empty-handed this evening at the Creative Arts Emmys. Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous voice acting award for the first season. “What a wonderful coincidence, one of the last things he worked on was not only revisiting a character so important to him…but also exploring something new, totally immersed in a new possible future,” said his wife, Taylor Simone. Thanks to our incredible team at @RiotGames and Fortiche, @TelevisionAcad and the greatest fans (yes, you) for making this possible. pic.twitter.com/xFNWt4eNc7
