Gangs of New York: Miramax Television relaunches project spin-off series

Martin Scorsese will direct the first two episodes of the Gangs of New York television series based on Herbert Asbury’s non-fiction book Gangs of New York: An Informal History of the Underworld.

Miramax Television and GK Films convinced Martin Scorsese to executive produce and direct the series after reading the script. His managers Rick Yorn and Chris Donnelly will also be involved. Note that the Italian-American director has always wanted to expand the plot of “Gangs of New York”:

Gang History of New York

In the shanty town of Five Point in Manhattan in 1846, two gangs fight the last battle in Paradise Square, namely the “Natives”, Protestants and Nativists, led by William “Butcher Bill”Cutting, and the “Dead Rabbits”, Irish immigrants. -Catholics. under the direction of the “Priest”Wallon. An old acquaintance, Johnny Sirocco, introduces him to the local clans of gangs and robbers, all of whom pay homage to Bill in control of the area. Amsterdam eventually gets to know Bill but keeps his past a secret in an effort to be recruited. He learns that many of his father’s former supporters are now on Bill’s payroll. Each year, Bill celebrates the anniversary of his victory over the Dead Rabbits; Amsterdam then plans to publicly kill him during this celebration.
