Q.Mag Power 8 is a practical product with a stunning design. The magnets around the wireless charging coil provide a charging experience very similar to MagSafe, and the stand on the back can help you enjoy your media or just use it as a stand on your desk. And, if you want to quickly turn on your device, it also outputs power through the cable. Moreover, it is the design of the product that will attract the attention of many and distinguish it from the rest.

Design

Transparent or translucent structures that expose the insides of a device are not a new phenomenon. Rather, they are a thing of the past, and we have also seen Apple release translucent products from back in the 90s or even earlier. However, the PCB and other component demonstrations are slowly gaining momentum, and the Momax Q.Mag Power 8 is an example of this design.

To be honest, I’m in love with its design and can’t deny that it’s nothing short of eye candy (without the negative connotations of the word, of course). But if you tend to carry the power bank in your pocket with your keys, or just travel a lot with it, the front panel may be covered in scratches. However, this is a guess as I haven’t used the product long enough to spot the scratches myself.

It has a transparent panel that shows the innards and feels like polycarbonate or fiber to the touch; however, it is a fingerprint magnet. While we are talking about magnets, the power bank design also highlights 16 magnets in a circle. The copper charging coil is inside the circle of magnets and just below it there are 2 magnets forming a tail.

In addition, the PCB (printed circuit board) is black in color and looks beautiful. It highlights all transistors, resistors, etc. that have been carefully soldered. In addition, there is Momax branding in the lower left corner. I’ve shown it to a few people and they all love the design, so it’s safe to say it’s not a controversial design.

The side panels are finished in Space Grey, with a polished matt finish that has grainy light reflections. However, there are a few details of the product printed on the sides, spoiling the clean and minimalist look. Also, my device has some minor scuffs and I haven’t even used it for that long. At the bottom is the power button with LED indicators, while the USB-C port serves as power inlet and outlet on the right.

At the back there is a stand made of artificial leather. Although it feels good in the hand, I am skeptical about its durability. The back, even with the kickstand open, has the same leather finish that retains the in-hand feel and doesn’t ruin the design.

Utility

Momax Q.Mag Power 8 has a 5000 mAh battery. Here I will talk about my experience with the product and its charging speed. Please refer to the table above if you would like input or output power through a wired or wireless connection.

First, I tested the product with an iPhone 13 Pro Max with a MagSafe case. While it charges with other third party cases, the magnetic connection isn’t strong and doesn’t give me confidence to use it. With that said, here are the results of the charging test:

• 13:45: 65%

I started charging iPhone 13 Pro Max at 5%. Charging to 30% took almost an hour, to 65% – almost 2 hours. Looking at these numbers, we can conclude that the Momax Q.Mag Power 8 will take 2 minutes on average to charge 1% of your iPhone’s battery.

Also, despite the fact that the company claims that the battery capacity is 5000 mAh, in most cases this does not correspond to the actual battery capacity of the power bank. In the real world, you can expect a power bank to charge a regular iPhone from 0 to 75-85 percent on a full charge. And it can charge iPhone Plus/Pro Max from 0 to 60-70 percent when fully charged.

Is it worth buying?

Momax Q.Mag Power 8 costs $59.99. I won’t argue if you say it costs more because of the utility it offers. However, the USP is not about battery capacity or charging speed or the fact that it also comes with a stand. This is one of those products where the company pays more attention to design.

If you have money to spare and love design, the Momax Q.Mag Power 8 is the one for you. The kickstand on the back of the device can help you use media files on iPhone. It also doubles as a stand that you can attach your iPhone to and keep it on your desk.

Tired of cables and just want a simple power bank to charge your iPhone wirelessly? Q.Power Touch ticks the box. It also features a unique fabric design called “Woven Touch”. The icing on the cake is the capacity, which is 10,000 mAh. So it can charge even your iPhone Plus or Pro Max from 0 to 100 percent without breaking a sweat.

Design

Unlike most other power banks, Q.Power Touch does not look like a polycarbonate brick. I’m not saying it isn’t. It is, but it doesn’t look like him. And the credit for this belongs to the “Woven Touch”design, which mimics the fabric. It comes in three color options and I have the gray one which looks very minimalistic.

What spoils the minimalism is the printing on it of a few details about the device. At this point, I feel like it’s made to comply with some legal regulation, or it’s just a bad design choice. However, the former outweighs the latter. At least I would like to believe so.

The frame of the power supply has an aluminum finish in space gray; however, it is made of polycarbonate. On the right side of the frame is the power button, and on the left side are LED indicators.

However, all the magic happens at the bottom of the bank. It has three ports: USB-A, USB-C and Lightning. While I don’t mind the placement of the ports, what looks like a bad design choice is the color inside the ports.

The USB-A port has a green coating, the USB-C port has a black coating, and the Lightning port has a white coating on the inside. I understand if this is done for better differentiation between ports, but that doesn’t sound like a great design choice.

Utility

Q.Power Touch is a 10,000 mAh power bank. It can fully charge your iPhone 12/13/14 Pro Max or iPhone 14 Plus from 0 to 100 percent one time and it will have spare power left. Plus, you don’t have to worry about the power bank not fully charging a standard iPhone as it can charge it twice. However, this does not always work, as other factors are at work.

Here I will talk about my experience testing the product. The first issue I want to highlight is the wiggle due to camera shock. I had to lay the iPhone horizontally on the power bank to keep it flat and charging. Please refer to the table above for more information on capacity and charging speed.

I used an iPhone 12 to test the charging speed. I’m sure you know that batteries charge at different rates depending on their percentage. Generally, the lower the percentage, the higher the speed. With that in mind, here are the results:

• 14:07: 52%
• 14:32: 65%
• 15:02: 79%
• 15:29: 82%

It took the iPhone 12 almost 1 hour and 30 minutes to just charge from 52% to 82%. Even though this is wireless charging, these numbers and speeds are very low.

But again, it was charging at the normal rate of 1% every two minutes to 80%, after which Optimized Charging kicked in and delayed the process.

Is it worth buying?

Finally, the question you’re reading all this for: is the Q.Power Touch worth $54.99? Yes. Yes it is. It can charge not only your iPhone or AirPods wirelessly, but also other devices via a wired connection. You can charge one device wirelessly and two others wired.

My issues with the product stem from some of the design options and build quality of the frame, which doesn’t feel as premium as the product itself. In addition, the design of the product is unique, it looks and feels premium in the hand. If you can ignore these aspects, I doubt you will regret spending money on the Q.Power Touch.
