Batman 2: Matt Reeves returns to direct and write

A Batman sequel starring British comedian Robert Pattinson is officially in development.

Director Matt Reeves greeted the international press when he announced Batman 2 at CinemaCon 2022: “Thank you all for your great support. We could not have come to this without the trust and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I can’t wait to get back to this world for the next chapter.”The information comes after the feature film grossed over $760 million and was viewed by 4.1 million families in a single week on streaming service HBO Max. That figure is higher than last year’s Warner Bros. Pictures such as Suicide Squad, Dune, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Matrix Resurrections.

For reference, Batman sees Edward Nygma, aka the Riddler (Paul Dano), a sadistic serial killer, start killing Gotham’s top political figures. This forces the Dark Knight to investigate hidden corruption in the city, which could end up rewriting the history of the Wayne family, thought to be blameless and benevolent. Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis also star. HBO Max is also preparing a Batman spin-off series centered on the Penguin.
