BGMI has repeatedly stated that it plans to crack down hard on cheaters with sanctions, bans, and devices soon. It appears that between December 27th and January 2nd, 2022, 71,116 accounts have been permanently banned from Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) by the developers. The number was released by the developers in a recent blog post, along with a full list of blocked account names.
Fraud and the use of illegal third-party applications to gain an unfair advantage in BGMI has been the biggest deterrent to the game, with many players quitting the game simply because they couldn’t find a cheat-free lobby. Bans and sanctions go a long way to ensure a safe and level playing field, but more stringent measures, such as device bans, can be much more effective.
BGMI developers will permanently ban more than 70 thousand players
Despite Krafton’s relentless efforts to crack down on scammers, the growing number of scammers being banned each month is a sign that stricter action may need to be taken. The decisive action in this case will be the equipment/device ban that Krafton has implemented since December 24, 2022. However, in the blog post, the developers did not clarify whether a permanent ban equates to a hardware/device ban.
Strong measures, such as equipment bans, often result in a lot of collateral damage, as innocent players can accidentally get banned. For banned players, an appeal system is usually set up to appeal their case and get off the banned list. A similar anti-cheat solution is likely to be implemented in BGMI in the near future.
So far, BGMI has been successful, with a lot of great updates and content coming into the game. Along with the game, the esports scene also looks promising, with Krafton’s first major tournament, iQOO Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2021, moving into the quarter-final stage and gearing up for a stunning grand finale.
