BioShock: Netflix ordered the movie

Streaming platform Netflix and American publisher Take-Two Interactive are joining forces to produce a film adaptation of the famous BioShock license.

This is not the first work on the adaptation of BioShock. Director Gore Verbinski (The Mexican, Pirates of the Caribbean, Sand Kings) was to direct a feature film for Universal Pictures in 2009 from a script written by John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, Sweeney Todd)). abandoned due to a budget deemed too disproportionate following the box office failure of Watchmen directed by Zack Snyder. A few years later, Netflix decided to restart the project.

“Netflix is one of the best and most forward-thinking storytellers in all of the entertainment industry today,” said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive. “We are thrilled that they share our vision and commitment to the BioShock franchise that millions of fans around the world love. 2K Cloud Chamber is deeply committed to actively developing the next iteration of the series, and combined with our partnership with Netflix, we remain confident that BioShock will continue to captivate and engage audiences like never before. ”

BioShock tells the story of an unnamed protagonist whose plane crashes over the ocean in 1960 and who discovers an underwater elevator leading to a luxurious Art Deco city. But as beautiful as it sounds, it is far from idyllic. The brainchild of business tycoon Andrew Ryan, the city of Rapture was supposed to allow for wild capitalism, exclusivity, individualism and objectivism. Scientists have developed genetic enhancements that naturally turn most of the inhabitants into Big Daddies.
