BioWare Loses Veteran Again With Mac Walters Departed

After 20 years of good and faithful service, screenwriter Mac Walters is leaving BioWare.

Mac Walters joined BioWare in September 2003 as a screenwriter for Jade Empire. He then worked as lead writer on the first Mass Effect. He then took on the role of lead writer for Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, then was named narrative director for Anthem after the end of the Mass Effect trilogy (in the meantime, he wrote several comics and novels for Dark Hors).

He returned to the world of Mass Effect with Andromeda as creative director after Anthem, then he served as creative director at BioWare until June 2019, and then became the chief executive of Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Most recently, he worked as a production manager on Dragon Age Dreadwolf, which still has no release date.

Mac Walters says goodbye to BioWare

Mass Effect universe architect Mac Walters has decided to leave BioWare, as have General Manager Casey Hudson, Executive Producer Mark Darra, Lead Writer David Gaider, Creative Director Mike Laidlaw, Director James Ohlen, Lead Producer Fernando Melo, and Creative Director Matthew Goldman.

New adventures often come along with the start of a new year. As some of you already know, at the end of last year I decided to leave BioWare. The last nineteen years have changed lives, to say the least, and made the choice very difficult. I have worked with many wonderful people and have had the honor of being part of the most wonderful teams and projects. It’s hard to understand and I know I’ll be thinking about it for years to come. Thanks to everyone I’ve had the pleasure of working with, and I wish everyone at BioWare the best in everything you do. It was really nice.
