Thanks to its “quests”, Meta will give you something to do in Horizon Worlds.

Meta announces its quests for Horizon Worlds, the giant’s way of empowering its network’s users in virtual reality.

For the VR social network Horizon Worlds to really take off, Meta needs to give potential users a real reason to go — and stay — there. In the American giant’s public announcement, we learn that its latest attempt in this area is called “quests” and allows users to complete missions to win virtual items such as clothing.

Meta announces quests for Horizon Worlds

This feature appears to be unrelated to the Quest headset brand, currently in beta testing in a game called Giant Mini Paddle Golf. According to the official description, “Those who take part in this test will see a new ‘Quests’ icon in their Personal Panel, which will open up a new quest board to show 6 quests (e.g. ‘Make a hole-in-one’) and rewards. that can be won (for example, the costume of the captain of the seas). With one click, travel the world to get started.”Meta plans to bring this feature to more users over time.

A way for the giant to empower users of its network in virtual reality

While currently limited to one experience, it’s easy to imagine that these Horizon Worlds quests are Meta’s way of giving Quest headset owners more options. Menlo Park said last month that it plans to launch at least 20 new experiences for Horizon Worlds with the help of third-party studios, these quests are certainly one of them.

At the end of 2022, Horizon Worlds had a user base of around 200,000, a far cry from the original goal announced by Meta. The company recently announced its intention to open Horizon Worlds to young people aged 13 to 17, drawing heavy criticism from two US senators who were concerned about Meta’s track record of protecting young users.
