Blizzard Entertainment plans to buy Proletariat, creators of Spellbreak

The American independent studio Proletariat must strengthen the staff of Blizzard Entertainment to ensure the continuation of World of Warcraft.

The impending shutdown of the servers of Spellbreak, the magical Battle Royale that failed to take off despite the free-to-play model, took precedence over the independence of the Proletariat: “After more than four years of elemental magic and spell combinations, we have made the decision to stop developing our original creation (…) Our vision was is to create a new multiplayer action and spellcasting game with exceptional movement and class customization options that would give players the ability to unleash their inner battle mage. We are grateful to everyone in the community for exploring the magical worlds and experiences we have created together.

“Proletariat”will lead the monitoring of World of Warcraft

Having taken over Vicarious Visions to expand the development team working on the Diablo license, Blizzard Entertainment is preparing to do the same with Proletariat. It will be Blizzard Entertainment’s largest acquisition – in at least the last decade – to expand its studios. In this context, the goal is to strengthen the World of Warcraft workforce to be able to meet the quality and timeline requirements for future expansions such as Dragonflight.
