The Canon 1D X Mark III will be the latest high-end DSLR.

The Canon 1D X Mark III will be Canon’s latest flagship DSLR. Now the brand will focus on a hybrid format (mirrorless).

Digital cameras are going through some pretty tough times, especially with the advent of smartphones and their increasingly impressive photography and video capabilities. This does not stop brands like Canon, Nikon and others from offering very interesting devices, and not only for professionals. However, Canon has just announced the end of an era.

Canon 1D X Mark III to be Canon’s latest flagship DSLR

For years, digital SLR cameras have been the preferred choice of most professionals. At the same time, the problem with SLR cameras is not in the quality of the images they receive, by no means so, but rather in their bulkiness. This is where mirrorless cameras came in, which not only offered similar, if not better, image quality, but also in a much more compact body.

For a while, DSLRs and hybrids existed side by side, but that will soon be a thing of the past, at least for Canon. Indeed, according to a report by Yomiuri Shimbun, who spoke with Canon President and CEO Fujio Mitarai, Canon is preparing to stop making high-end SLR cameras. More specifically, the Canon 1D X Mark III will be the brand’s latest high-end model.

The brand will now focus on a hybrid format (mirrorless).

According to Fujio Mitarai, “Market needs are rapidly shifting towards mirrorless devices. In fact, we also change people.” The company backed up Fujio Mitarai’s claims with a public statement sent to PetaPixel: “As stated in the article, we plan to offer only high quality devices in mirrorless format. Naturally, we’re thinking a lot about an RF mount device for our next flagship model.”

Canon has had a rather delicate start in the mirrorless market, but in recent years the brand has made huge strides in releasing its devices with RF mounts.
