Samsung is among the smartphone manufacturers that are experimenting a lot with displays. The company’s display division demonstrates various foldable versions through concepts and prototypes. At CES 2022, the South Korean tech giant showed off four different forms of folding technology. Among the new “flexible”displays unveiled at CES 2022 is the Flex S. It’s essentially a triple-fold display that offers more screen real estate when deployed. The company also showed off a retractable display concept at CES 2022, which it calls Flex Slidable. Let’s take a look at the Samsung Flex displays unveiled at CES 2022.
Samsung Flex Displays at CES 2022
Samsung showed off four different display shapes at CES 2022, which is currently underway. The Flex S is a tri-fold display that looks like an upgrade to existing folding panels. Samsung calls its Flex S because the foldable device forms an S-shape when you fold or unfold it. This allows the user to use a separate display for different tasks, such as a smartphone, tablet, or AI device.
The Flex G, on the other hand, is a folding device that folds inwards twice into a G shape. The two sides of the device fold inward, with the rest of the center piece. Samsung claims that the G-shaped screen is more durable as it is protected from external scratches and bumps.
Flex Slidable is somewhat similar to the Oppo Find X 2021 concept with a different mechanism. The company says the retractable display slides out at the push of a button. It offers several use cases, including one for using the display as an aid to access applications.
Finally, the Flex Note is Samsung’s take on foldable laptop and notebook displays. Think of it as a larger version of the Galaxy Fold’s display mechanism that folds vertically. The lower half of the display can be used as an on-screen keyboard or for any other use case depending on the task being performed.
