Tumblr limits search results on iOS to keep them in the App Store.
Tumblr has limited what users can see on their iOS app. The decision has been made so that the application is not yet excluded from the Apple App Store. To do this, Tumblr had to strictly comply with the Cupertino company’s guidelines and, in particular, limit the results provided for certain tags and other search queries that, according to Tumblr, “may meet the definition of sensitive content.”

The platform even goes so far as to block some of them completely, if not most of them, according to a list of prohibited and restricted conditions that may have been developed by Tumblr users.
While the inclusion of some specific words in this list is understandable, some of the entries are curious to say the least. Such is the case with “Eugene Levy”and “Tiger Tony”. This restriction also makes it difficult to find content related to mental health, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and anxiety, as well as well-known issues such as racism and transphobia today.

Those searching for content with a blocked tag will now see a screen that says “This content has been hidden”instead of the normal results page. There will also be the same notification if they try to access a blog that has been marked “explicit”in the app. Users should also see fewer offers in the “for you”and “followers”sections due to these new restrictions.
Tumblr has made these changes three years after completely banning adult content from its platform. If you remember, Tumblr banned adult content in 2018 after the Cupertino-based company removed its app from the App Store after discovering child pornography photos on the site. The social network also said that these changes apply only to the iOS application. These restrictions do not exist on the web or in the Android version of Tumblr. The spokesperson also told TechCrunch that the company is “working on more successful solutions to be rolled out in the near future.”
