Crunchyroll Partners with Google to Drive Global Anime Growth

Google and Crunchyroll announce a multi-year strategic partnership to accelerate and support the anime streaming service’s ambitions around the world.

This partnership for Crunchyroll builds on Google’s existing deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment, which includes collaborations on Android, Google TV and Android TV OS, YouTube, Google Advertising Solutions and Google Cloud. The anime streaming leader will work with Mountain View to strengthen its consumer-facing business to truly new levels of scale, flexibility and audience experience.

Crunchyroll Axes of Evolution with Google

  • Enhanced browsing experience through content personalization: Google Cloud will enable Crunchyroll to improve its ability to attract and retain audiences by leveraging its proven technologies and privacy-based content personalization, as well as artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies.
  • Inform product and content innovation: Leveraging Google Cloud’s expertise in data management and analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, Crunchyroll will be able to better leverage customer and user insights to inform the development of new experiences for fans and future developments.
  • Worldwide reach: Crunchyroll will be able to distribute its subscription content and services widely through Google Play on Android, Google TV and other Android TV devices.
  • Connecting fans to content and driving growth. Through Google’s advertising solutions, Crunchyroll will be able to continue to provide fans with a unique ad-supported video-on-demand experience with more than 100 episodes. This will allow it to expand its reach, connect with key audiences, and expand its platform with user-friendly advertising experiences.
