Dead Island 2 is out. The highly anticipated zombie-killing RPG is set to arrive on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and PC via the Epic Games Store on February 3, 2023. Deep Silver showed off some footage of this hemoglobin-filled sequel, along with a cinematic trailer and gameplay video, during the Gamescom Opening Night Live presentation.

Dead Island 2 will feature six playable characters with unique voices and personality traits, and the entire story takes place in Los Angeles. The game is also made as a real love letter to cult horror films and old Hollywood creations: a twisted but rich storyline, classic RPG elements and a co-op mode for up to 3 players. All six main characters are customizable, and an all-new skill system allows players to change their abilities on the fly. There are also dozens of different types of zombies to destroy.

Dead Island 2 is a direct sequel to the original 2011 game, although the series had a few small episodes. The game was announced in 2014 and has had many ups and downs since then, falling victim to multiple studio sellouts and other team changes. Today it is being built at Deep Silver’s Dambuster Studios, which worked on Homefront: The Revolution.

And, quite unexpectedly, Dead Island 2 will be the first game to use Alexa Game Control, an Amazon service that allows players to use their voice while playing and see how the game performs appropriate actions. Anyway, this is the idea. You don’t need an Echo to use voice commands in Dead Island 2, a simple headset with a built-in microphone will suffice. And you don’t have to start your sentences with “Alexa”either. The technician will respond to certain key phrases such as “take my best weapon”or “where is the nearest workbench?”You will also be able to manipulate the undead hordes by saying “hello zombies”, which should be very nice.
