Dell Polaris, eGPU concept compatible with full size GPUs and liquid cooled GPUs

Dell presents a very interesting eGPU concept. Polaris can fit a 16-inch GPU and cool it in liquid.

Playing on a PC is often not the ideal solution – unless you have a dedicated gaming laptop, of course. Indeed, laptops are thought and designed to be portable, meaning that the emphasis has been on machine size and weight rather than heat management, for example, which is not a problem. Don’t worry about desktop computers due to their large size and often many fans.

The small size of the laptop also requires downsizing some of the internal components, such as the graphics processor. That being said, if you work primarily with a laptop but want some of the benefits of a desktop computer whether you’re gaming or not, then the Dell Polaris concept might be of interest to you. This is a very complete eGPU solution. Presentation.

For those who don’t know, eGPUs are external GPUs that plug into laptops (or even desktops, sometimes) to benefit from improved graphics performance. Dell claims that a 16-inch GPU can be squeezed into the Polaris and the whole thing can be cooled as it should be with Dell’s 240mm Cryo-Tech liquid cooling.

This isn’t Dell’s first attempt at building its own eGPU, but unlike Alienware’s graphics amplifier, Polaris uses a Thunderbolt 4 connection to be compatible with even more computers. The system doubles as a hub as it has both USB-A and USB-C ports and can support 2.5Gb/s Ethernet connections.

It’s very interesting on paper, but since it’s just a concept, no one knows if Dell is going to sell such a product. I hope that it will be like that! To be continued!
