Four years after ordering Demimond, HBO is dropping the sci-fi drama created by JJ Abrams.

The final stages of the Demimonde discussions took place amid a broader reassessment of a major deal that Bad Robot struck with Warner Bros. for movies, TV, games, and digital content, because the new Warner Bros. Discovery is scrutinizing every piece of assets it acquired in the merger last April.

Written, produced and directed by J.J. Abrams, Demimond, his first solo TV production since Spy, was to feature Danielle Dedwyler as Olive Reed, torn from her husband and daughter during a brutal scientific accident. She is forced to uncover a plot to find her family, now lost in another dark and distant world.
The showrunners are Kira Snyder, Rand Ravich and Far Shariah. They were executive producers along with JJ Abrams and Ben Stephenson of Bad Robot. Rachel Rush Rich served as co-executive producer. Last summer, HBO dropped another series, Bad Robot, The Shining spin-off, Overlook. The project has since been created at Netflix. It is not yet known if Demimonde will be offered on other platforms.
