Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 Demo Now Available for Preload on Consoles

Matrix Resurrections is just a couple of weeks away from release, and the Unreal Engine 5 Experience called The Matrix Awakens is now available for preload on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience was spotted earlier last week on the PlayStation server, and many were curious about what it really was.

The teaser trailer for the same film features Keanu Reeves, or at least the actor model from Unreal Engine 5. The app is meant to “glance into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with Unreal Engine 5.”The Experience will be unveiled in a couple of days at The Game Awards and players will be able to play it for themselves on Friday, December 10th.

This is a brand new app, so unfortunately PS4 and Xbox One users won’t be able to experience it for themselves. The experience includes performances by two of the film’s main characters: Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. Curiously, the app is not available for PC.

“Created by members of the original development team including Lana Wachowski, Epic Games and partners,”the PlayStation Store description reads. “The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience is a wild ride into the reality-altering universe of The Matrix, featuring performances by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.”

The Matrix franchise has a reputation for being a leader in marketing, as the first film in the series was one of the first to use the internet as a vehicle to market the film. Now it looks like the series is embracing gaming and the interactive nature of the medium to create hype for the upcoming movie. The most optimistic among them will probably rely on this as a sign that one day we may see the return of the Matrix games, which have undoubtedly been underestimated.
