Here are all the ways you can get research parts in Dredge.

Complete side quests (pursuits)

The most common method of obtaining Research Parts is by completing side quests. These optional side quests are known as Pursuits, for which you get research parts.

Dredging

In Dredge, you can also get research parts using this method known as dredging. In doing so, you are basically cleaning and retrieving items from the surface of bodies of water. Retrieved items can be fish or scrap metal. Though you can also get Research Part by this method. Also, you unlock this dredging upgrade fairly early in the game.

Buy from merchants

Last but not least, the fastest way to get Research Parts in Dredge is to buy them from Traveling Traders. However, you will have to pay an amount of around $300 in exchange for one research piece. Hence, make sure you have a good amount of money saved up before interacting with the Traveling Trader.

How to spend research parts wisely

In my opinion, you should spend your research parts on improving fishing rods. This is because fishing is the whole point of this game and you will need a fishing rod at every point. So the wisest move would be to upgrade and discover new and better rods with research parts. However, it will make your game progress even smoother.
