Diablo Immortal: Over 8 million downloads and $24 million in revenue

Obviously, having a license like Diablo makes things a lot easier. That being said, you can call yourself Blizzard, come up with a new game like Diablo Immortal, and cause a lot of controversy in the community. However, the numbers are currently good and even very good.

Diablo Immortal reveals some interesting numbers

Just two weeks after its release, Blizzard’s Diablo Immortal has generated a whopping $24 million in revenue for the studio, according to Appmagic. In its estimate provided by GameDev Reports, the specialist company explains that the free-to-play game was downloaded about 8.5 million times in the same time period, with 26% of downloads coming from the United States. The majority of Diablo Immortal’s revenue also comes from the US. To date, American players have contributed 44%.

To put the game’s financial success in context, Hearthstone, the only other Blizzard mobile game on the market today, made about $5 million in May. Despite the fierce debate over the game’s monetization system, there is no doubt that no one expected the game to fail. Instead, many fans were worried that Diablo Immortal would be so successful that the studio wanted to publicly explain how it plans to monetize its future games.

At the time of writing, these concerns seem unfounded. Diablo General Manager Rod Fergusson recently stated that Diablo IV will have a very different monetization mechanic from Immortal. “To be absolutely clear, D4 is a complete game designed for the PC/PS/Xbox audience,”he tweeted after Microsoft’s recent Summer Game Fest performance. Meanwhile, Blizzard announced this week that Overwatch 2 will be getting rid of loot boxes.
