iPhone 14 simplifies display and back glass repairs
The display on older iPhones could not be replaced without removing the entire True Depth camera module. Thankfully, the display on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models can now be opened without removing the entire TrueDepth camera module, according to TechCrunch Editor-in-Chief Matthew Panzarino.
This is a rather unexpected change. The last iPhone with a removable glass back was the iPhone 4s back in 2011.

But that’s not the only interior design change – the new phones have a glass back that can be opened for easier repairs, as reported by DuanRui on Twitter.
The ability to open the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro from both the front and back could ultimately reduce the cost of display and rear glass repairs.
Display and back glass repair on older iPhones
To replace the back glass on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, Apple Stores and Authorized Service Providers need to open the display side of the device, disassemble the components, and install the iPhone back system, which is the iPhone case with all components except the display. and back camera.
This part is attached to the original display and rear camera, if these parts are also not damaged. For iPhone 11 and older models with a cracked back glass, Apple Authorized Technicians simply replace the entire device.
In the United States, Apple charges $169 for the back glass of the iPhone 14 and $199 for the back glass of the iPhone 14 Plus. However, people with optional AppleCare protection will only pay $29 for rear window service on both models.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are also better at dissipating heat, which is one way to improve battery health. Analysis of the teardown by PBKreviews on YouTube shows that Apple engineers achieved this by covering the motherboard with a metal plate and using graphite film for the back of the display.
