The National Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (NCPCR), the highest commission on children’s rights, has demanded that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology explain why the banned game PUBG Mobile is still available to minors. The Commission wrote to MeitY after it became known that a 16-year-old boy from Lucknow reportedly shot and killed his mother for refusing him to play PUBG.
The Commission has also asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to shed light on this banned game (PUBG) and track its status along with other games in the country. The NCPCR also urged officials to provide the Council with a list of games played by minors and their organizations and entities within ten days of receiving this letter.
NCPCR To Ministry of Information Technology: How is PUBG still available in India?
The letter states: “It is not clear to the Commission how a game banned in India, which the Government of India has blocked, is still available to minors. As a result, the Commission requests that your good offices notify us of the reasons for the availability of such blocked applications on the Internet.”
The Commission stated in another letter to the President of the Indian Olympic Association that PUBG has been recognized as an esport and has also come to the attention of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
16-year-old boy killed his mother who asked him not to play PUBG
A teenage boy was accused of shooting his mother with his father’s licensed handgun when he was in the military because she interfered with his PubG play. The boy then smuggled her body into their home in Lucknow for three days, using room deodorants to cover up the smell, according to UP police.
UP police took him into custody and sent him to a juvenile home. Recently, Aytaq stated that in addition to the murder of a woman by her son, there are several suspicious things. The boy was waiting at the gate long before the police arrived on the scene, and he showed the gun that had killed her mother. There are also reports that at the time of the murder, the boy was talking to his father via video link. There are mysteries to solve, but the main reason for the murder, PUBG, remains the same.
NCPCR wrote to MeitY Secy over media reports that boy shot dead his mother for stopping him from playing PUBG
“It is beyond understanding of the Commission, that how a banned game in India, which has been blocked by GoI is still available for use by minors, “reads the letter
PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite along with 116 other apps were banned by the Government of India due to security concerns amid the issues between India and China in September 2020. As a result, the game was completely removed from the Play Store and App Store. In May 2021, Krafton, the parent company of PUBG, released Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) as a localized version of PUBG Mobile.
Although the first police report and other media reports mention PUBG, it is possible that the child in question played BGMI, which has since been renamed and officially launched. Even though PUBG is banned in the country, the game is still played in an illegal way.
