Duolingo invades the metaverse

The world’s first language learning app is coming to Roblox and Decentraland.

Duo the Green Owl, already known for noticing and relentlessly chasing language learners to do their homework, will now be present in Roblox, a virtual universe where users can create and play games and share the experience with their friends, as well as also in Decentraland, a virtual world based on the blockchain and owned by its users.

“Traditionally, brands that enter the metaverse create their own environments or worlds that others can interact with. In the case of Duolingo, which is a brand loved by many, including Roblox, we wanted to create an experience that would allow fans to create something with our brand and Duo, our favorite green mascot, that they would love and share with their own. friends,” said James Kuczynski, Creative Director of Duolingo.

The Roblox community has previously created unofficial Duolingo-themed games and avatars.

Duolingo decided to respond to Roblox players by making brand assets available on the platform and launching a game jam where developers could submit their games to showcase in Duolingo’s virtual space. Nearly two dozen developer-created games have been selected to be featured in the Duolingo space on Roblox.
