John Romero announces that he is working on a brand new FPS. The details are still, unfortunately, very thin.
John Romero, one of the inspirations behind the cult game Doom, is currently working on another first-person shooter. Romero Games officially announced this just recently. In a tweet, the independent studio founded by John Romero and his wife Brendra Romero explained that it was partnering with a major publisher to develop the game and that it would be a “new original license”.

Several details regarding this upcoming game have been revealed. This will be Romero Games’ first game since Brenda’s 2020 strategy game Empire of Sin Engine 5. The studio also mentioned that it is recruiting all positions to develop its game, especially people with experience with the UE5 engine.

The Galway-based studio hasn’t said much about the game itself. In the FAQ section of his website, the question “What can you tell us about this new shooter?”appears first, and the response is: “We can confirm that this is new, this is a shooter, and we work with a major publisher. Other than that, it’s too early to say anything. However, we welcome your interest in the game.”
Unreal Engine 5 was released by Epic Games just a few months ago, and we’ve already seen a lot of very promising game announcements, though we won’t be able to enjoy them until the end of this year, 2022 or even 2023. Fans of John Romero and his wife will certainly have to wait many months, before discovering this new game. Will it be released before Sigil 2, which Romero Games announced last year, but whose release date is still unknown? Future will tell.
