John Wick: Lionsgate in talks with studios to form AAA

John Wick video game for next-gen consoles may soon begin development.

John Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate, has announced to its shareholders that the ambitious video game adaptation of John Wick is currently in discussion with important members of the video game industry:

I don’t want to speculate, but we think it’s possible to make a great AAA game based on John Wick. We have received offers. We would like to move this project forward, but for now I don’t want to say more.

Unlike Mike Bithell’s 2020 indie game John Wick Hex, which reimagines assassin battles as a strategy game, John Wick AAA may be an expansive action game featuring battles and gunfights among the genre’s most distinctive and most stylized. An ideal candidate for such a project would be the American studio Rockstar Games.

John Wick, Lionsgate ATM

Discussing the potential for future John Wick projects with Lionsgate investors, John Feltheimer noted that the creators of the series have done an incredible job to not only keep the franchise alive and relevant, but to make each film more and more valuable. While 2014’s John Wick grossed $86 million on a $20 million budget, the sequels have grown bigger as the John Wick and Keanu Reeves cult following has grown. Chapter 2 grossed $171 million worldwide, while the latest film Chapter 3 – Parabellum grossed $327 million worldwide. Chapter 4 is still scheduled for release on March 24, 2023.
