OnePlus seems ready to unveil its new OnePlus Ace Racing Edition smartphone. The device is expected to launch in China, followed by a possible global launch with the same or a different name. While the device’s official launch date is tomorrow (i.e. May 17, 2022) in its home country of China, information about the device has been leaked several times online, giving us some hints of what to expect. It also recently appeared on the testing site Geekbench. However, before its official announcement in China, the company’s CEO Li Jie Lui confirmed a couple of features of the smartphone.
OnePlus Ace Racing Edition display, processor details
According to Lui’s Weibo post, the OnePlus Ace Racing Edition smartphone will feature an LCD screen rather than AMOLED. While this may be bad news for die-hard OnePlus fans, they can be cheered by the high refresh rate support of up to 120Hz. The CEO claims that the device can automatically adjust the refresh rate based on the content on the screen. This will indeed lead to longer battery life.
As for the processor, Louis has confirmed that the smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max SoC. It’s worth adding that this information is in line with what was posted on Geekbench a few days ago. The listing spotted by MySmartPrice showed an octa-core processor in a 4+4 configuration with a peak frequency of 2.85GHz. The Mali G610 MC6 GPU and 12GB of RAM were also listed.
What do we know about OnePlus Ace Racing Edition
The OnePlus Ace Racing Edition is likely to be the second smartphone after the OnePlus Ace in the new “Ace”series. Previous reports indicate that the Ace Racing Edition includes a square-shaped camera module on the back that resembles the design of the OnePlus 10 Pro. It may include a 64MP camera sensor, an 8MP secondary sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. There may also be a 16-megapixel front camera.
Other rumored specs include a 6.59-inch Full HD+ (1080 x 2412 pixels) display, 8GB and 12GB RAM options, 128GB or 256GB storage versions, and a 4890mAh battery.
