When furnishing a home office or transforming it, a desk is the key to turning a room into a functional workspace. And if you spend all day there, it also has a significant impact on your health. Standing desks can help offset some of the adverse health risks associated with sitting all day long, but it’s hard to find a decent standing desk that doesn’t break the bank. That’s where Flexispot comes in.
The advantage of Flexispot is that it sells more than just desktops. It specializes in ergonomic solutions for any workplace and sells fixed height desks, climate controlled workstations, table bikes, chairs and more.
I was looking for a new standing table and Flexispot was kind enough to send me one of the best in class test tables: the Flexispot E7 Pro Plus standing table. There are a few customization options for this model, but I specifically tried the 60-by-30-inch model with an ebony chipboard top, black T-frame, and premium keyboard.
Desktop selection
You can choose chipboard, bamboo, fiberboard, solid wood texture and rubber wood as the desktop material. From there, there are many different desktop colors to choose from, including different colors for each desktop material.
For example, the bamboo version has only regular and dark shades, while fiberboard comes in oak, brown, white or black. Chipboard has ten color options, more than any desktop material.
Then you need to choose the size of your table, which also depends on the material you choose. Sizes range from 48″x 24″to 79″x 35″. Bamboo and fiberboard have curved options.
Frame selection
There are three frames available for the table: the T-frame I tried, the C-frame, and the tall frame.
- The T-frame has table “legs”in the center and can rise from the floor from 22.8″to 48.4”. With the T-frame, you can choose from three colors: black, white or grey.
- The C-frame has “legs”at the back of the table and can rise from the ground from 23.6 to 49.2 inches. This frame allows you to choose from two colors: white or gray.
- The high frame is almost the same as the T frame, but allows the table to be raised higher than the other two frames. It expands to 52.4 inches and shrinks to 25.6 inches. You have two colors to choose from: white or black.
There are advanced and premium keyboard options to control desktop height. They look different but have very similar features.
- The advanced keyboard features a digital display showing desk height, three one-click memory buttons for height presets, up and down controls, and a sit/stand reminder. This keyboard is only available with a gray or white T-bar.
- The premium keyboard features a digital display showing desk height, a touchscreen, four one-touch memory buttons for height presetting, up and down controls, plus a child lock and USB charging port.
Packing and initial inspection after shipment
When I received the table, the legs and top were in two different boxes. These bags were very, very heavy. The shipping weight of the 60 x 30 chipboard was almost 50 pounds and the T-frame was almost 80. Both items were well packaged with styrofoam and other packaging materials. However, after I removed the foam from one side, a large dent or chip formed on the chipboard.
Since it was well packaged, it was most likely a manufacturing defect or an accident while storing and packaging the products and not a shipping issue. However, I contacted Flexispot and they offered to send me a new one.
Installation and setup
In general, the table is quite easy to install and assemble. To make things easier, I recommend getting help from another person, but you can definitely do it yourself if you don’t have the option.
As expected, Flexispot sends you all the screws, as well as a hex wrench, also called a hex wrench, in a plastic package labeled A to F. The frame only included attaching the bottom, top, and motor for the stand-up. desk. Then you just screw in the desktop and you’re done. The keyboard can be placed on either side of the table.
However, the directions weren’t clear if you needed to have a certain length top, so I was looking for the “ideal”leg spacing. And while the instructions don’t mention it, there is a video on YouTube that explains how to set up and set up the table, which I didn’t find until about 90% completed everything. This would be useful to see in the instruction manual itself.
Table use
I currently have a dual monitor desktop mount, 32″and 27″monitors, two small main speakers, a keyboard and mouse, and it seems to hold the weight very well. The frame I used had a load capacity of 355 pounds, so that’s no surprise. The table has two motors that make the height-adjustable stand work really well, as well as a keyboard that tells you exactly how high the table is.
While the touchpad controls are nice, I had an issue with them being overly sensitive to touch. I barely touched them as I adjusted the monitors, the table went up or down. However, you can lock the table height by holding the “M”button, which solves this problem.
Also, I have a few issues with some of the features that Flexispot advertises. First, the table is advertised as being “stable from any angle”, but it’s not. If I try to put weight on the front, it seems to me that the table will tip over. Secondly, the table is advertised as having a collision avoidance feature. However, I haven’t found this to work very well. When I accidentally bump into the keyboard and the table slides down, it grabs onto my chair and starts breaking the table.
However, my favorite thing about this desk is the cable management. I have two computers – a PC and a Mac mini – and two monitors, so I use a lot of different cables and power cords. They are sometimes difficult to manage, but this table has a tray under the table to hide most of the wires.
Prices
The price of this table varies depending on what you need. It starts at $579.99 and goes up to $1159.99. So, whatever your budget, the E7 table probably has an option for you.
However, if you’re looking for something cheaper, Flexispot sells less expensive tables like Comhar (pictured below), a great budget option.
It has an Amazon store where you can get most of the non-premium table options that start at $249.99.
What my setup looked like before
I have known about Flexispot for many years and have always wondered how good their tables are. A few years ago I thought about buying one of Flexispot’s standing tables and decided against it because at the time the company didn’t have a table big enough for my setup.
So instead I made my own DIY setup with an IKEA worktop and IKEA legs and then replaced the legs with a VIVO Electric Stand Up Desk Frame Workstation. To route the cables, I used regular plastic cable holders with duct tape to hold them.
All in all, the Flexispot E7 Pro Plus Electric Standing Desk is a worthy addition to any home office, large or small, and desktop height adjustment is as easy as can be. Other than a few minor issues I’ve had with it, it’s still one of my favorite standing desks.
