Emancipation: A poignant feature film about slavery

Apple TV+ presents the trailer for Emancipation starring Will Smith.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by William N. Collage, Emancipation tells the triumphant story of Peter, a man who escapes slavery, relying on his intelligence, unwavering faith and deep love for his family to escape the cold-blooded hunters. and the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana in his quest for freedom. The film is inspired by the 1863 “Whipped Peter”photographs taken during a medical examination of the Union Army and first published in Harper’s Weekly. One of the images, known as “The Wounded Back”, which showed Peter’s bare back mutilated by the floggings of his slavers, helped create public opposition to slavery.
