Epic Games acquires Bandcamp, an online indie music store

Bandcamp will play a major role in delivering Epic Games’ vision of building a creative marketplace ecosystem for content, technology, games, art, music and more.

Fair and open platforms are essential for the future of the creator economy. As such, Epic Games and Bandcamp share a common mission to create the most artist-friendly platform that allows creators to keep the most of their hard-earned cash. Despite the acquisition of Bandcamp by Epic Games, the online indie music store will continue to operate as a standalone marketplace and music community with an artist revenue model (where artists earn an average of 82% of each sale).

“We are thrilled to welcome the Bandcamp team to Epic Games,” said Steve Ellison, Vice President and General Manager of the Epic Games Store. “Bandcamp has created an incredible community and business where emerging artists can succeed through direct support from their fans with one of the best earning models and conditions in music. This aligns closely with our approach to supporting creators across all media and allows them to connect directly with their fans.”

Ethan Diamond, CEO and co-founder of Bandcamp, adds: “Our mission is to help spread the healing power of music by creating a community where artists thrive through the direct support of their fans. In Epic Games, we have found a partner who believes as deeply as we do that the future of music and the arts itself depends on building honest and inclusive communities like the ones our fans and artists have helped build. We are excited to work with them to accelerate our mission and achieve our shared goal of empowering more authors in a fair and open manner. “
