Google publishes the first list of Chromebooks that can run Steam.
The Google Chromebook isn’t really known as a machine built for video games. These devices are indeed mainly used as machines for work or lessons, but if you like the Mountain View operating system and would like to be able to play on it, you are in a certain degree of luck.

As some of you may already know, Steam is expected to arrive on Chrome OS one day. And if recent OS code changes are to be believed, Google has begun releasing an initial list of Chromebooks that will be officially compatible with Valve’s online content distribution platform.
These machines include the Acer Chromebook 514 (CB514-1H), Acer Chromebook 515, Acer Chromebook Spin 713 (CP713-3W), ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 (CX5500), ASUS Chromebook CX9 (CX9400), and Chromebook HP Pro c640 G2. There is also a computer codenamed Lindar. This is reportedly an unreleased Chromebook product from Lenovo.

Of course, this list is far from exhaustive. So there’s a chance that some current Chromebook users will be able to take advantage of Steam, but many won’t. We don’t know (yet) the technical background for this, but it’s still good. At this time, no one knows when Steam will officially release on Chrome OS either, but if you own one of the machines listed above, get ready to play it… at least some of the games available on Steam!
In any case, this is a very interesting feature that should undoubtedly allow this OS to be popularized even more.
