Depending on the type of iPhone you’re using, a 2:1 aspect ratio YouTube video may crawl into the notch slightly, causing an unsightly aesthetic video viewing experience. Frustrated by this, a Reddit user turned to /r/jailbreak to find a solution, and they sure did.
Nine days after posting the initial request, iOS developer therealFoxster responded with the release of a new free jailbreak tweak called DontEatMyContent that fixes a notch issue that sometimes bites a little when playing 2:1 aspect ratio videos in the YouTube app.
In the before and after screenshot comparisons above, you can see how the setting improves playback quality on affected devices by shifting the render view to always appear below the label. The developer even believes that the tweak should be compatible with Dynamic Island on the latest Apple phones, of course there is no jailbreak for them yet to be tested for sure.
If you don’t know which devices this issue might affect, the developer says that DontEatMyContent should be compatible with any and all of the following devices, warning that it has only been extensively tested on the iPhone 13 mini:
- iphone 12 mini
- iphone 13 mini
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iphone 14 plus
This simple install-and-run jailbreak tweak requires no configuration . Its source code is on the open source GitHub developer page, and the. deb can be downloaded from the same GitHub page and installed on any jailbroken iOS 14 device. It is currently unknown if the developer plans to release the tweak in any of the major jailbreak repositories.
Even if you don’t have a jailbreak, you can install a modified version of the YouTube app provided by the developer via TrollStore – this method works on devices with the new iOS 15.1.1.
