Australian actor Chris Hemsworth will play the main antagonist of the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel.
In Blood, Sweat, and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, author Kyle Buchanan delved into the creation of not only Mad Max: Fury Road, but also its upcoming prequel, Furiosa. While it’s still a long way from theatrical release, slated for release in 2024, it’s indicated that Chris Hemsworth will be the main villain opposite Anya Taylor-Joy’s Furiosa. Mad Max is an Australian franchise, so the inclusion of a Marvel Cinematic Universe star in the cast is a high indicator of the film adaptation’s level of credibility.
“George Miller first met Chris Hemsworth out of courtesy and then fell in love with the idea. He will play completely opposite to his style, he will be the main villain. Unfortunately, we need to find other actors for other characters as some of them are missing right now, namely the new Immortal Joe, the new Bullet Farmer and a few others,” said PJ Voeten, co-producer on Mad Max: Fury.. Road in Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road.
Casting starts for Mad Max: Fury Road prequel
In addition to Chris Hemsworth, some of the characters from Fury Road will return in the new Mad Max movie, but in a new guise. Despite the fact that the creators decided to digitally age the performers, Richard Carter (Bullet Farmer) and Hugh Keys-Byrne (Immortal Joe) are sadly no longer with us. It will be interesting to see who takes on these roles as production progresses, as they have become cornerstones of the franchise.
