A film adaptation of the Gears of War license could be announced later this year.
For several years, Microsoft and former wrestler Dwayne Johnson have developed a long and excellent professional relationship, especially in the field of Xbox promotion. In a recent interview, the one who is called The Rock was asked about the possibility of incarnating characters from, a priori, franchises of an American publishing house and the answer is unequivocal:
“I’ve always been a big fan of Madden. I can’t tell you what specific game we’re going to make, but there will be an announcement this year. We’re about to bring to the screen one of the biggest and most complex games I’ve played in years. I can’t wait to introduce it to fans all over the world. Sure, we’re going to honor our fellow gamers, but we’re just going to make a great movie.»
Gears of War or…God of War?
Considering the Gears of War movie has been referenced multiple times in the past, it’s entirely possible for Dwayne Johnson to dive into the universe of the Coalition-developed license, where the CGU, a supranational military collective and intergovernmental native from the planet Sera, in the Age of Silence, faces off against the Locust Hordes.
However, if we remain speculative, we might as well consider God of War as Sony will offer more and more adaptations of their licenses in film as well as on the small screen with PlayStation Productions.
