Street Fighter 6 gameplay shown at State of Play, slated for release in 2023

Street Fighter 6 was heavily featured on yesterday’s State of Play, and fans got their first look at gameplay from the long-awaited sequel to the iconic franchise. The game was announced earlier this year and Capcom has now confirmed that the game will be released next year in 2023.

The franchise, now 35 years old, is still going strong, as evidenced by its ever-growing community of fans. Street Fighter 6 will feature all of the iconic and fan-favorite modes such as Arcade Mode, Training Mode, and Local Battles, as well as two new modes, World Tour and Battle Hub.

Capcom has also confirmed that Street Fighter 6 is being built on the RE Engine used for games such as Resident Evil 7, Village, and Devil May Cry 5.

Street Fighter 6 will look hyper-realistic on the RE Engine

A teaser trailer earlier this year showcased the transition from the franchise’s iconic comic style to a hyper-realistic look. Street Fighter 6 will feature an updated art style “made for the modern age”, updated graphics, and “explosive paint splatters and vibrant graffiti”.

Fan-favorite characters such as Ryu, Chun-Li and Luke will return to the new game along with new characters such as “Jamie”who will introduce a new unpredictable set of moves based on drunken boxing. Iconic characters such as Ryu also received some design changes as he is clearly different from how players may remember him from previous games.
