1. Make sure voicemail is set up on your iPhone.

So before you continue, open Phone and click on the Voicemail tab to make sure your voicemail is set up.

You can also go to Settings → Phone → and make sure you see “Change Voicemail Password”.

2. Try calling voicemail directly.

If your iPhone is not responding, try the following. Go to the Phone app, open it and make sure you are on the keyboard screen. Long press the number 1 key until your voicemail starts ringing. If that doesn’t work, try going to settings → voicemail and checking the green checkmark next to “use a visual voicemail phone number”.

3. Force close and reopen the Phone app.

To force close your phone, on iPhone X and later, swipe up until you see apps in Task View, then swipe up again on your phone. On iPhone 8 and earlier, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the Phone screen. You will see all open application cards.

4. Turn cellular on and off.

You can disable and then enable cellular in Settings or Control Center.

Launch Settings → Cellular → Turn Cellular Data Off → Turn it back on after 30 seconds.

5. Turn Airplane Mode on and off

You can do this either in Settings or Control Center.

  1. On iPhone X or later, swipe down from the top right corner of the screen (where the battery indicator is). On an iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap the airplane icon to turn on airplane mode and turn off all connections.
  3. After 30 seconds, tap the same airplane icon to disable airplane mode.

This will most likely fix the problem with voicemail not working.

6. Restart your iPhone

If you have call forwarding set up, this may cause conflicts with voicemail. To disable call forwarding or make sure it is not enabled:

Go to “Settings”→ “Phone”→ “Call Forwarding”→ Make sure the toggle is turned off.

11. Reset iPhone voicemail password

To fix your voicemail not working on your iPhone, you can try changing your voicemail password.

You can do this by logging into your carrier’s website or by contacting customer support for assistance. Some network providers also allow you to do this through their mobile app.

Alternatively, you can reset your voicemail password in Settings.

  1. Go to Settings → Phone → Change Voicemail Password.
  2. Enter a new password.

If you have forgotten your current voicemail password, contact your wireless carrier.

12. Reset network settings
