Google is pausing the release of the December update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones.
Software updates are often greeted with enthusiasm, and rightly so, because they bring their fair share of new features and improvements, bug fixes, security breaches, design changes. “You have a brand new app. Unfortunately, sometimes an update brings new bugs. And in some cases, upgrading does more harm than good. Such is the case today with the December update for the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.
Google suspends release of December update
Bad news for Pixel 6 owners. Mountain View just announced that they are suspending the release of the December update for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro after numerous reports describing stability issues during phone calls and outages. As Droid Life reports, this release from Google explains why many Pixe 6 owners haven’t received the update in recent weeks. For those few who were able to download and install it and who have no problems, Google points out that it is also entirely possible to continue using your smartphone.
For those who have this kind of problem, the only solution is to revert the phone to an older version of Android and perform a factory reset. As always, before proceeding, you need to make sure that your device is properly created. Otherwise, you will lose all available data.
for Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones
The December update was released to add a few new features such as Ultra Wideband (UWB) on the Pixel 6 Pro and Quick Tap to Snap for very quick access to Snapchat from the lock screen. Google explains that these features will return in a patch that will be available sometime in January.
This delay is a real failure for Google, especially since the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are a showcase for Google, showing the world the power of their own processor and their own software. Not with such errors, we can prove that Android is a worthy equivalent of iOS. In any case, let’s hope that the situation for Pixel 6 owners quickly returns to normal.
